Who will the Nets pick up? Jason Collins – Big Baby – Earl Clark?

The Nets were quiet at the deadline yesterday and did not pull the trigger on any Jordan Hill or any other frontcourt player deals.  The lone change was the addition of Marcus Thornton for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans the day before.

They have until March 10th to use their Disabled Player Exception of $5.25 million from the Brook Lopez injury and now have two available roster spots to add an additional player.

Right now it seems as if the Nets are looking for a big man that can help offset the horrendous rebounding disparity they try to overcome on a nightly basis.

A new face has hit the market and that is Glen “Big Baby” Davis who has just reached a buyout with the Orlando Magic.

It is being reported that Kevin Garnett is recruiting Davis to be a part of the Nets for the stretch run and playoffs.  His past relationship with Garnett and Paul Pierce could have a major impact on his decision and only time will tell.

Jason Collins is a popular name that some  sources have floated out there although I highly doubt that he will be signed by Brooklyn as that big.  He is not a great rebounder and would be just one more plodding big that doesn’t bring anything else to the table.

I don’t mean to sound trite or insensitive but my feelings are that the Nets “threw him a bone” and worked him out to help his comeback attempt get some traction in the news for other teams to see.

The Nets organization along with Jason Kidd and others who have played with him most certainly want him to get another chance so working him out would let everyone know he is ready and can still play.  It may help him land a gig with another team like the Clippers.

His name was mentioned yesterday on a call with Nets GM Billy King.

[quote_box]”He’s one of the names on the list,” King said of Collins on a conference call. “We will look at anybody that’s a free agent that’s big that’s out there. We’re looking at any guys that are free agents and he’s one of the guys. But we’ve got other guys that we’ll look at.”

“We’re going to look to add a guy,” King said, “that we feel will help us.”[/quote_box]

One other name that just hit the wire is Earl Clark who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday in the Spencer Hawes deal and just waived earlier today.

Clark played great for the Lakers in his time there and revived his career before signing with the Cavaliers this offseason.  Clark’s $4.25M next year was non-guaranteed so the 76ers are simply clearing the decks to be as horrible as possible.
