RUMOR: Nets to retire Jason Kidd's number

Nets rookie big man Mason Plumlee was asked last week about why he picked number “1” for his jersey number and he gave an honest answer.

That answer may have shed a little light on the idea that new head coach Jason Kidd’s number “5” will be retired sooner rather than later.

[quote_box]Plumlee via Bleacher Report:

“I think [the Nets] are going to retire it [for Jason Kidd]. 21 was what I was going to wear next and then they were said KG might want 21. Then 00 was taken so I went with the next number, number 1. ”[/quote_box]

Kidd may have to wait a few games into this season to get his number retired because he will likely be suspended for a game or two as a result of his drunk driving incident last summer.

It really doesn’t matter when the event takes place for Kidd as it will be a huge night for the Brooklyn Nets and all Nets fans that were amazed by all of his exploits as a New Jersey Net.

Kidd, in my opinion, is the greatest Nets of all time and brought the languishing franchise to heights it has never seen before or since.
