The Brooklyn Nets beat the Phoenis Suns last night in overtime by a score of 100-98 in Phoenix.

The Nets went into Phoenix with a sense of desperation coming off a blowout loss to the Kings and it was visible on the defensive end from the very beginning.

The poor shooting continued through the first quarter (25%) and things got even worse with 7:02 remaining when Deron Williams went down with another sprained ankle.  The Suns took a 12 point lead in the quarter and looked to be ready to run the Nets out.

The Nets then went on a 30-4 run spanning the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter when they turned up the defense.

Shaun Livingston came on for Williams and played 37 minutes to finish with 18 points and six assists.  Brook Lopez scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half and overtime and added seven rebounds and three blocks as he dominated the smaller Suns frontcourt.

Joe Johnson saved the Nets once again as he has done over and over in his tenure with Brooklyn when he hit a floater to force overtime and then hit the game-winner as time expired in overtime to send the Nets to their first road win.

[quote_box]”I knew I wouldn’t have to take a rushed shot,” Johnson said. “I got in the paint and made a play.”

“We needed this one very badly,” Johnson continued. “We were a very desperate team tonight and we had guys who were tired and gave everything they had.”[/quote_box]

[box]KEY STATS: The Nets had zero turnovers in the third and fourth quarters and ended with only 12 in 53 total minutes.

NOTES: ESPN Stats & Information says that this game-winning shot was Johnson’s fifth buzzer-beater since 2007-08 which is tops in the NBA.

NEXT UP:  The Nets have no time to celebrate as they play the LA Clippers tomorrow night at 10:30pm and the game can be seen on YES. [/box]
