The Brooklyn Nets beat the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 107-106 in Brooklyn.

Defense or just bad shooting was the story of the first six minutes as the Nets were 3-10 and the Maverickss started 2-13.  Brooklyn had at least eight wide open 3-pointers or jump shots that just did not fall to keep them in a dogfight.  Both teams shot 8-for-20 at 40 percent in the first and Nets went 1-for-9 from deep.  Mavs up 21-18 after one.

After starting the quarter trading baskets Mirza Teletovic got hot and scored 19 of the Nets’ next 21 points to give the Nets the lead 41-33.

Teletovic’s second quarter was magical as he dropped a career-high 24 points, 9-for-11 from the field, 6-for-7 3-pointers.  The Nets outscored the Mavs 39-25 in the second and raised their halftime field goal percentage to 58 percent behind 16-for-21 shooting (76%) in the quarter. Nets had 39 bench points and 17 assists at intermission up 57-46.

One of my favorite moments of the night was when Chris Carrino, the radio voice of the Nets, said Teletovic is ” U Plamenu” which is  “On Fire” in Bosnian.

Both teams came out of halftime a bit sluggish to start the third quarter but Brooklyn maintained a 78-70 lead after three with a late rally.

Dallas scratched and clawed in the fourth putting up 36 fourth quarter points but Brooklyn played the foul game when they were up three in the final moments and it paid off with a one point win 107-106 fourth their fourth straight win overall and seventh in a row at home.

Deron Williams played 34 minutes and scored 18 and dropped 11 dimes coming off the bench to record his team-high 5th double-double of the season.  Williams also moved past Micheal Ray Richardson into 7th place on the Nets’ NBA all-time assist list.

Kevin Garnett recorded another double-double with 10 points and 11rebounds.

The Nets are an NBA-best 9-1 in January and have won a season-best 7 straight at home.

“It speaks a lot about him,” Deron Williams said about Teletovic. “He was definitely frustrated last year with his lack of playing time. Mirza’s a competitor and he’s been one of the top players in Europe for a long time. It was a little hit to his ego and he felt like he could contribute and help, so he really didn’t get that opportunity. Now he is, and he’s making the most of it, so I’m happy for him.
