Scott Skiles On Nets Radar?

Another name emerged Saturday on the Brooklyn Nets coaching search and it is a name most wouldn’t believe – Scott Skiles.  This is not the first time Skiles has been linked to the Nets this offseason but the most recent.

The ex-Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls coach who was recently fired by Milwaukee has been linked to the Brooklyn job because of his fiery persona and tough mentality.

Some think the Nets need a more tough minded coach to bring some “grit” and “tenacity” to this veteran laden team and Skiles would be one coach to bring that.  One asset that Skiles does not bring with him is an innovative offensive scheme and tends to depend purely on his teams defensive prowess.  The Nets need a tough coach that can also provide some offensive insight for an offensively challenged team.

The part that makes Nets fans question this candidate is the past experience of Skiles rubbing players and front office personnel the wrong way with his unrelenting passion.

Skiles draws interest

The NBA pre-draft camp is always fraught with rumors. One that started percolating Saturday pertained to Brooklyn’s search for a new head coach.

Some NBA officials claim the Nets are honing in on Lionel Hollins, Memphis’ coach whose contract will soon expire. The Nets’ interest in Scott Skiles Bucks scowlHollins is hardly surprising, especially considering the terrific job Hollins has done this season.

What is surprising, though, is that the Nets also have put Scott Skiles on their short list. Skiles was fired by the Bucks in January after four-plus tumultuous seasons in Milwaukee. Under Skiles, the Bucks had constant internal issues and qualified for the playoffs just once.[/quote_simple]

In fact, we’re hearing that Scott Skiles is the frontrunner for the Nets job, which would be another reason for Kidd to stay away, given the acrimonious relationship he had with his former coach in Phoenix.[/quote_simple]
