Jason Kidd is a leader and that is something that is well known by anyone that has seen him play.

He is the ultimate competitor and floor general who has always happier to get his teammates involved then he was in putting the ball in the basket.

The biggest question today is whether or not that will translate to the sidelines of an NBA team.

Can Kidd make the transition to coach only 10 days after retiring and hit the ground running?

Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov seems to think Kidd is a hidden gem amongst a heap of retread coaches and the NBA should take notice.

Mikhail D. Prokhorov, the billionaire owner of the Brooklyn Nets, on Thursday called Jason Kidd a born coach and said that the Nets and their fans had reason to look forward to an N.B.A. title.

“The point is that there are people who are born coaches,” Prokhorov said in his first comments on Kidd’s appointment as head coach. “And it is known that Jason Kidd was in fact a player-coach on many teams. And he has been training for a long time. He has played under many coaches and he has always wanted to be a coach.”

Speaking in Russian after a news conference announcing that he would not run for mayor of Moscow in elections this fall, Prokhorov said that there was a shortage of coaches with star power.

“Despite all the N.B.A.’s competitive potential, they lack a little bit of star coaches,” he said. “Of course, we are very glad that now together with our fans we can grow up a new star and finally, naturally, win the N.B.A.”[/quote_simple]
