One of the major acquisitions for the Brooklyn Nets this past offseason was the multi-talented Andrei Kirilenko.

Nets fans currently say – “Who is AK47?”

The Nets are still waiting to see this Russian “swiss army knife” play his projected role on this team and see what kind of advantage it gives the Nets.

Kirilenko has missed the Nets’ last 20 games with some of the worst back spasms of his career and has been out since Nov. 8th.Andrei Kirilenko pic with hair standing on end

Andrei Kirilenko spoke before Monday’s game and told Newsday that “he’s hopeful he’ll return to action prior to the Nets’ six-day road trip.”

It would be great if this does finally happen with the Nets facing some upper echelon teams in Indiana, San Antonio and Oklahoma City to end the year.

[quote_box]“Yeah, this is definitely the worst one with the back,” Kirilenko said, sitting at his locker. “I have had those kind of injuries before in the past, and usually it takes like seven, 10 days max. But this time, I’ve had three times of setbacks, and so it’s the main reason why I’m kind of waiting longer, and why the doctors and trainers, why they kind of pull you back a little bit. They don’t want you to rush again and get in a situation where I will have a setback again.”

“Right now, it’s just a matter of getting into shape,” Kirilenko said, “getting rhythm, getting into basketball stuff. Even tonight, I’m hoping to get some shots up [in pregame]. I’ve got begin to get some movement to kind of speed it up. Not to speed it up recovery-wise, but speed it up moving and getting into the right rhythm.

“It’s very tough to give you an exact date. As I said before, 10 days, two weeks, seven days, five days. Right now, I’m taking every day and really improving and moving and improving. As soon as I can really get to a full court and full speed workout … Right away, I think if I’m ready to play in a practice, I’m going to be ready to play in a game.”[/quote_box]

Christmas present picI know my Christmas and New Year will be bright if AK47 can make his much anticipated return and give his rookie head coach a great option to use in any way he feels.

The options are limitless with AK47 as his game is so diverse and I continue to say that this guy will change more than people think once he gets on the floor and shows his abilities.

He can play more positions than anyone on the team and creates matchup problems for most teams he plays against.

Once AK47 gets back and into a groove the Nets could take off and make a run at getting over .500 and start thinking about winning this piss-poor Atlantic division that is there for the taking.

Lets all hope these pesky back spasms stay in 2013 and don’t continue into 2014.[/box]
