Nets 102 – Suns 100

The Nets came out well in this one running out to a 10-4 lead only to see it evaporate quickly with a Suns 10-0 run full of Nets turnovers.  Deron Williams dished out six assists in the first and recently back, Kris Humphries dropped nine points and looked good in his second game back from hibernation.  The Nets and Suns battled to a 25-25 tie after the first quarter.

The second unit began the second as normal and quickly put the pressure on the Suns with another 10-4 run behind Andray Blatche’s six straight points.  The Suns couldn’t hit  basket with Williams leading the second unit and the lead went to 40-34 when CJ Watson relieved him.  The 30-18 quarter put the Nets in front 55-43 at half.  Humphries led the Nets with 12 points and seven rebounds at half with help from Brook Lopez 12 points.  Nets shot 51 percent at half to the Suns 40 percent.

[blockquote]“You gotta stay in shape, be ready and try to figure out the flow of what’s going on — especially when you don’t get in at all for an extended period of time,” Humphries said. “My teammates got me involved early and we were able to win the game.”

The third quarter was the complete opposite for Brooklyn as they gave the entire lead away with poor defense and bad decisions.  Wesley Johnson looked like an All-Star where he torched the Nets for 17 third quarter point and hit five 3-pointers, with four in a row to end  the quarter.  Goran Dragic was a big part in the play of Johnson as he found him over and over and ended the third with 12 assists to go with his 18 points.  Bad defense by MarShon Brooks and others led to the Nets giving the quarter away and making it a game going into the fourth. Nets down 76-75 after three.

The final quarter was struggle from the beginning for Brooklyn as they did everything they could to hold off  the confident Suns.  The lead was never greater than four points by any team and it went back and forth with Dragic and Williams leading their teams.  Watson was a big part in the Nets finishing this game off when he hit a big 3-pointer when it looked like the Suns would pull away to tie it at 78.  Watson scored 10 points in the first six minutes of the fourth and finished with 12 big fourth quarter points to help the Nets hold on.  The Nets fouled late up three with just seconds to go and got away with it as Dragic missed the second free throw only to see Hamedi Haddadi grab the rebound and miss left off the rim to end the game.  PHEW – Nets win 102-100.

[blockquote]PJ – “A win feels better than a loss. It’s still a very good win. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t like we did 800 things well, but we found a way to get a win.”[/blockquote]

With the win Brooklyn is now 3-1 in the first four of their eight game road trip.
