Hawks 89 – Nets 94

The Nets had a chance to even the home-and-home set with the Atlanta Hawks at the Barclays Center on Friday night and came out with more energy right from the start.  Deron Williams was more involved and pushing the tempo to set the tone and ended the first with 13 points and three assists.  The defense was much better than last game and the backcourt seemed to be able to slow down Jeff Teague and Devin Harris a little bit more although the turnovers kept the Hawks in the game and it was 29-29.

Brook Lopez was not involved in the first half at all and only had three field goal attempts and two rebounds.  Williams carried the Nets offensively while Reggie Evans grabbed 11 rebounds and played great defense.  The Nets ended the first half with 13 turnovers and allowed Atlanta to shoot 50 percent but held on for a 49-49 tie into the break.

The Nets went on a 6-0 run to start the second half only to have the Hawks quickly respond with more fast break points and an 11-3 run to take the lead back.  The free throw line has been an asset to the Nets all year but it failed them tonight.  The Hawks got their fast break rolling in the third and clawed back multiple times to tie the game at 74-74 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter started with a 5-0 run by the Nets and they were up 79-74 but still were missing free throws left and right.  Lopez got involved and starting to use his size to lead the Nets to a 9-2 run.  The Hawks came right back with seven straight points to bring the game to within 90-89 with 1:30 to play.  Lopez came up with the play of the game and blocked Teague with .40 seconds to play and grabbed the rebound to allow Williams to ice the game with more free throws.  Evans had 20 rebounds while Lopez finished with 20 points and six rebounds and one HUGE block.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: Deron Williams free throw streak is at 47 in a row after his clutch makes in the fourth.
