Grizzlies 76 – Nets 72

The Nets offense looked out of sorts early while the Grizzlies looked fluid as normal.  Marc Gasol ate up Brook Lopez for eight points in the first four minutes. The Nets absolutely awful the first six minutes with bad turnovers and forced shots to go down 14-4. Deron Williams woke up and started 4-for-4 from the floor for 10 points to get the Nets into the game and a 17-16 lead. Ugly quarter as Memphis shot 36 percent to the Nets, just as bad, 38 percent.  The Nets ended the quarter on a 15-2 run to lead 19-16 after one.

The Bench Mob started the second with Tyshawn Taylor leading the team at the point.  This game was ugly and both teams couldn’t hit the ocean for much of the game.  MarShon Brooks sparked the Nets second into with four points and five rebounds in his first eight minutes.  Nets.  Grizzlies turned up the defense    and made a 6-0 run to take a 35-30 lead with three to play.  Andray Blatche played well in his nine minutes with four points and six rebounds.  Turnovers are the reason, 11 in all, the Nets are trailing 43-38 at half behind putrid shooting at 38 percent. Williams led the Nets with 14 points and three Nets each had six rebounds.

C.J. Watson continued to play well for Joe Johnson and hit another 3-pointer to start the Nets off in the second half.  Williams kept the pressure on Tony Allen and found the open man.  Reggie Evans and Zach Randolph battled like two wrestlers all game and the refs allowed them to play.  More ugly play in the first six minutes where a total 12 points were scored by both teams.  49-60 midway through the third.  The Nets compiled 14 offensive rebounds so far in the game.  Tough game to watch.  Mirza Teletovic entered the game for first time with 1:41 left in third and did not hit a shot. A horrid quarter for both teams, 13-12, with Grizzlies leading 55-51 after three.

Blatche started the fourth with a dunk and a steal for another dunk from Teletovic to make it 57-55 Memphis.   Williams came alive with a burst to get the crowd into it with a killer crossover for a layup and a 3-pointer. Nets ties game at 61 with 7:30 to play.  Heat check for Williams with another three to make it 67-63 Nets.  Teletovic with his second bucket of the game, a 3-pointer, put the Nets ahead 72-70.  Game tied at 72 with .35 to play and the Nets called time out with the ball.  Williams went to the basket and was hammered but did not get the call and the ensuing play led to a fast break for Allen and a foul where he made both free throws.  The next possession with .19 to go Williams drve to the basket and try to pass to Teletovic but it was stolen and the grizzlies knocked down both free throws again. Grizzlies up 76-72 with .8 to go and they beat the Nets with that score.

[quote_box]“I definitely thought I got fouled, but, they didn’t call it, so I guess I didn’t. I can’t control no calls or calls or anything like that,” Williams said. “I can control not turning the ball over on the next play, which is even more frustrating and really, how we executed down the stretch was frustrating.”[/quote_box]

Deron Williams led the Nets with 24 points, four rebounds and four assists.  Reggie Evans grabbed a team high 14 rebounds.

GAME CHANGER: Deron Williams went to the basket with the game tied with 19 seconds to go and was fouled blatantly with no call being made.  The game was over after that as the Grizzlies hit four straight free throws.  Bad no call.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Nets grabbed a season high 17 offensive rebounds against one of the Top 5 rebounding teams in the league in Memphis.
