The Brooklyn Nets were defeated by the New Orleans Pelicans in overtime by a score of 109-104 in New Orleans.

Quick Thoughts: COLLAPSE

The Nets came out looking very good and spry coming off an overtime win in Dallas the night before but that only lasted for the first half.  Paul Pierce and Deron Williams played very well in the first half with a combined 24 points.  The second half was a totally different story as Brooklyn stopped going to the basket and suddenly allowed Tyreke Evans and the young Pelicans free lanes to the hoop.  Brooklyn only scored 40 points in the third and fourth quarters and were lucky to force overtime only to be lackadaisical on defense and allow three wide open 3-point shots to bury them in the extra session and lose 109-104.

Momentum Changers:

Tyreke Evans started to go to the basket with reckless abandon in the second half and the Pelicans got the idea they could win the game and followed his lead.

Evans had 22 of his 33 points in the second half and the Pelicans came back from a 13-point second half deficit to shock the rolling Nets in overtime 109-104.

NUMBERS:

The Nets attempted a franchise-record 40 three-pointers in tonight’s loss and made only 10.

Nets blew a 22 point lead to the Pelicans in overtime which is their largest blown lead in a loss since 11/5/12 against the Timberwolves.

D-Will now has at least 1 steal in 19 straight games which is the longest active streak in the NBA.

Pierce (24) – Williams (23) – Johnson (15) – Blatche (12) – Livingston  (10)

Kidd’s Corner:

“We’re short-handed, but there’s no excuses,” said Nets coach Jason Kidd, whose team lost Marcus Thornton at halftime. “We had an opportunity to win a game on the road. It went into overtime, and we just couldn’t get it done.”

“We didn’t play team defense. We didn’t help each other,” Kidd said.
