The Brooklyn Nets beat the Atlanta Hawks by a score of 91-86 in Brooklyn.

This game started off slow with the Nets shooting 40 percent to the Hawks putrid 27  percent in the first quarter.

The Hawks picked things up in the second quarter and went on an extended 25-11 run and ended the half on an 11-0 run.  Nets shot 38 percent and were 1-for-12 from 3-point range in a ragged first half of action.  The Nets did not score a field goal after the 3:54 mark in the second and lost the brutal quarter 31-19 to go down 52-46.

Something miraculous happened to start the second half when the Nets, yes your Nets, opened the half with a 14-0 run to take control back of the game and lead 60-52.   Andrei Kirilenko and Mirza Teletovic sparked a late third quarter run behind good defense and Teletovic’s three 3-pointers.  Nets led 72-67 after three with a 26-15 third quarter.

The game went back and forth with the Hawks going on a 7-0 run put them back on top 78-77 with six minutes to play.  After a Jason Kidd timeout Brooklyn ran off their own 7-0 ton lead 84-78 with 3 left.

Joe Johnson was eating up Atlanta in the fourth and it was obvious that Kidd wanted Johnson the focal point.  It worked out perfectly as Johnson attracted some much attention with less than a minute to play that he was able to find Teletovic in the corner with the dagger 3-pointer to put Nets up five points, 89-84, with .44 to play.

Teletovic scored 12 of 16 points after halftime to help Johnson secure this win.

Kevin Garnett spoke post-game about the fact that they have so much faith in Johnson that they call him “Joe, Jesus.”

“I feel pretty good,” Kirilenko said. “I feel like I understand what we want to do, and how we want to do it. It’s just that sometimes there’s miscommunication, and that’s understandable. I’ve missed a lot of games.
