Nets trade Kevin Garnett to Timberwolves for Thaddues Young
The Brooklyn Nets have traded veteran and team leader Kevin Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the long sought after forward Thaddeus Young.
Garnett, who is 38 and averaging just 6.8 points and 20.3 minutes per game for the Nets, had to waive his no-trade clause to enable the trade to go through and did so right before the deadline.
The addition of the 26 year old Young gives the Nets much needed length and athleticism in the front court as well as a much younger body to build with.
This trade also gives the Nets a bit of cap relief in the short term, 2.4 million in pro-rated money on this seasons luxury tax bill although if Young doesn’t use his early termination option after the season and he could add another $10 million on the Nets’ for 2015-16.
Young was acquired by Minnesota from Philadelphia in a trade last August and is averaging 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds this season.

Earlier in the day the Nets looked to be on the verge of trading center Brook Lopez to the Oklahoma City Thunder for point guard Reggie Jackson until less than twenty minutes prior to the 3pm trade deadline the Thunder snubbed the Nets and traded Jackson to the Detroit Pistons.
Sources: Brooklyn still waiting on OKC to finalize a Brook Lopez deal, but Thunder hunting elsewhere within 20 minutes of deadline.
