The Brooklyn Nets rookie Mason Plumlee has been selected to play in the 2014 All-Star Rising Stars Challenge Feb. 14 during All-Star weekend in New Orleans.

Plumlee’s minutes have been reduced significantly since the injuries to the Nets have subsided a bit so his numbers are down a bit lately.  He is averaging 5.6 points and 3.0 rebounds on 62.9 percent shooting in his 33 games played.

Billy King, Nets general manager, talked about his rookie being selected to play.

“This is a great honor for Mason and the Nets organization,” King said. “He has worked extremely hard from the first day of training camp at Duke to the present, and this selection is a testament to his work ethic. We look forward to his continued development.”

The Nets second year sharp-shooter, Mirza Teletovic was left off the sophomore team which is a bit of a shock being he is playing very well right now shooting 42.2 percent from behind the 3-point line. Teletovic could very well be a candidate for the Foot Locker 3-point Shootout that will be announced probably tomorrow.

The players for the game were selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches and will be coached by Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley who will select their teams in a draft format on Feb 6 live on TNT.

There could still be some changes and additions to the game with injuries always being a factor.
