Reggie Evans is going to be Reggie Evans and what you see is what you get. Evans plays hard and leaves everything out on the floor each and every time he steps out there. He has had to work extremely hard to get where he is as an undrafted player out of Iowa. He was told he couldn’t make it in the NBA and worked his tail off to make a career out of his passion and rebounding skill.

Evans made some incendiary comments prior to last night’s matchup with the Miami Heat about what he thinks of the world champions and LeBron James.

Evans said to the Daily News, “Our team is defending the Miami Heat. If our team has to defend one person, LeBron isn’t going to score nothing. LeBron is no different from Joe Johnson or Andray Blatche. No different. People need help (on defense). Some people don’t need help. Everybody has to be double-teamed, it doesn’t matter who you are. You just have to stop LeBron in transition.”

What was James response in the postgame to these comments?

Earlier Wednesday, Evans dismissed the Heat’s championship-winning season by telling the New York Daily News: “It doesn’t prove nothing. That was a lockout season.”

When James learned of the comments during the day, he tweeted: “Just keep throwing rocks at the throne, don’t matter cause nothing can break my zone.”

James finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in Wednesday’s 105-85 victory over the Nets, the third time Miami has blown out Brooklyn this season. Then he took aim at Evans’ comments.

“You can’t just come out and say something like that versus a champion,” James said. “No one knows what it takes unless you’ve done it. You can’t sit here and judge and talk about a team winning a championship unless you’ve done it. (Evans) hasn’t done it.”

Evans declined to speak to reporters after the game. But his teammates were not pleased with the team’s effort this season against the Heat, who won all three games against the Nets by a combined total of 63 points.

UPDATED: Evans did not talk to reporters after the game but he did tweet a few things after the game in response to Twitter banter.

Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNY reports (and tweets) that Evans comments were taken out of context.

“I just said they won a championship in a lockout season. That’s what I said. So I never downplayed it or nothing, I just said they won a championship. That was really about it. I guess people just took it out of proportion.”
