When the news broke yesterday that Jason Kidd was “reassigning” assistant coach Lawrence Frank to do daily reports and not be at practice or on the bench anymore it sent reverberations throughout the NBA and everyone seems to have an opinion on how and why this occurred.

If there was one person in the world today that could understand what Kidd is going through right now it would be Mark Jackson of the Golden State Warriors – correct?

Not so fast folks……..

Take a second and read Jackson’s response to questions about Kidd’s decision in pregame prior to the Warriors taking on the Raptors last night.

Question: Don’t want to ask you too much about somebody else’s team, but there seems to be turmoil around Jason Kidd’s rookie season in Brooklyn, he just reassigned Lawrence Frank. As you look at your situation, do you value even more the time you spent between playing and getting this job?

JACKSON: To me, it wouldn’t have mattered. I understand what the perception was, but to me it would not have mattered.

When I look at that situation, I don’t know what happened, I do see the reports of a ‘difference in philosophies.’ If that’s true, that’s trash to me.Jason Kidd with hand on mouth during game frustrated

Because there’s one philosophy, and that’s the head coach. I think we’re giving too much to an assistant or a staff. You win, it’s Jason Kidd. You lose, it’s Jason Kidd.

I think that when you talk about a difference in philosophy, that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Because–and this is not Lawrence Frank, this is if it’s true–Lawrence Frank as a head coach, when I’m calling Nets games for three years, his staff had the same philosophy. That’s just the way it is.

And that staff should have the same philosophy as Jason Kidd, win, lose or draw, go down together. I think that’s where you get success and that’s the way it’s supposed to be done.

Question: How clearly did you have to make that point with your staff when you started this job?

JACKSON: I didn’t have to make it clear. I believe that at the end of the day you’ve got to be a leader, you’ve got to let people know, and everybody understood. Win, lose or draw, right, wrong or indifferent, I was making decisions and I had a group of guys that believed in me.

And I’ve had an incredible staff for three years now that worked their tail off and was united.
