KERBER: Kirilenko Signing Triggered Probe of Nets

The whispers that made the rounds in the NBA this offseason regarding the signing Andrei Kirilenko to the Nets’ $3.1 mini-midlevel exception can now be put to rest. 

The NY Post -Fred Kerber- is reporting that the NBA finished their “probe” of the Brooklyn Nets in regard to the Russian born Kirilenko signing with Brooklyn and found nothing against the rules.[blockquote]“When there is a formal complaint, the league will look into it,” said one league official who spoke in generalities and refused comment on the Kirilenko issue.

The league launched its investigation, questioning participants. Nets officials were summoned — at one point on a weekend, usually a time off in the summer for league execs.

“It was a very, very thorough investigation,” one source maintained. “They checked everything.”[/blockquote]

While I understand the other NBA executives point a tad bit, this entire scenario seems like a whole lot of sour grapes on their part.  Once a complaint is filed by a single owner the league must then look into it.  [blockquote]Marc Fleisher, Kirilenko’s agent, addressed only Kirilenko’s decision to join the Nets.

“Basically, the offers and things we had from other teams were too difficult to make happen,” Fleisher said, referring to the necessity of a possible sign-and-trade or complicated deal.[/blockquote]

No one in Brooklyn gave a second thought to the Russian player wanting to take less money and try to win a championship only because it was our Nets and not the Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics doing it.

Kirilenko’s wife, Masha Kirilenko, let it be known to the world that she is ready for the season to start just by looking at her Intsagram account from two days ago.
