GAME 4: Timberwolves 98 – Nets 91

Updated: November 5, 2014

Last night the Minnesota Timberwolves traveled to play the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays center and came away with a hard fought 98-91 victory.

The Nets came out as slow as a team could possibly be hitting only one of their first 12 shots to go down 17-2 in the first quarter.  Brooklyn then decided to wake up and out score the Timberwolves 46-30 the rest of the first half to lead 48-47 at halftime.  The Nets had the lead at six points late in the fourth quarter but got sloppy and turned the ball over time and time again to allow Minnesota to leave Brooklyn with the victory.

Brook Lopez had about as bad a game as he has ever had in the NBA scoring just 10 points and shot just 5-of-14 while being completely dominated by Nikola Pekovic who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Pekovic hit every big shot in the last few minutes of the game one-on-one against Lopez and led his team to the victory.

STAT OF THE GAME:

The Nets had a massive 18 turnovers that led to the game slipping away late and only dished out 17 assist to offset that number.

STATS:

LEADING SCORERS:

Joe Johnson – 22 points on 9-for-17 shooting and 1-for-4 from deep.

Kevin Martin – 26 points on 8-for-20 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds

PLAYER OF THE GAME:

Jarrett Jack  – Jack was the spark-plug that Nets fans envisioned him being when they traded for him this past summer.  He scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and dropped four assist to go with one solid steal resulting in a layup.   His spark off the bench help bring a lackluster Nets team back from a 15 point deficit early and helped them create momentum later in the game as well.

Coach Speak:

“Well, the guy whipped him,” Nets coach Lionel Hollins said about the matchup between Pekovic and Lopez.

“I mean, it happens. You’ve got to give Pekovic credit. He was a man in there and I’m always saying that there’s always a badder man than you in the prison, you know, and you got to do it every night.
