The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Miami Heat by a score of 88-87 in Miami.

Rundown:

The Nets came out strong and took a 26-14 after one quarter where they held Miami to 5-of-13 shooting.  The Heat came back in the second and made it a tight game at 44-43 at the break.  Brooklyn shot 50% from the field for the half and looked fluid in doing so.  The game was a low scoring affair and the defense on both sides was tight for the entire second half.  Mirza Tetelovic and Paul Pierce helped Brooklyn as best they could but the Heat took a 65-62 lead into the final period.  The Nets found a way to make big shots in the fourth and outscored the Heat 26-22 as Mason Plumlee rejected Lebron James at the rim in the final seconds for the 88-87 win and the season sweep.

Momentum Changers:

With Miami holding onto an 82-81 lead with just under two minutes to play Deron Williams drove to the right side and dropped off a pass to Marcus Thornton in the corner where he nailed a clutch 3-pointer to give the Nets an 84-82 lead and they would go on for the sweep of the Heat in the season series.

NUMBERS:

Four players in the NBA have scored 19+ points 3 times this season against the Heat. 2 of them (Joe Johnson & Paul Pierce) are Nets’ players.

The 14 points the Nets allowed in the 1Q are the 2nd-fewest points they’ve allowed in a 1Q this season (fewest: 8 points at DEN 2/27).

Marcus Thornton registered a season-high 4 steals (most steals in a game since 1/25/13)

Kidd’s Corner:

“That’s just basketball,” Nets coach Jason Kidd said. “You have the best player in the world going against a rookie and we got lucky.”

Quotables:

Mason Plumlee

“It’s winning time,” Plumlee said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s Dwight [Howard], LeBron, whoever … you just have to meet them at the rim.  There will be times I get dunked on, but they’re going to have to go through me or over me.”

“Honestly, I didn’t think there was a foul,” Plumlee said. “And I just feel, being a fan of the NBA, at the end of games you have to earn it. Nothing’s going to be handed to you and our guys play through things.”
