The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Miami Heat by a score of 88-87 in Miami.
Rundown:
The Nets started well without two starters and led 22-20 after the first quarter. The second quarter did not go well in the beginning for Brooklyn as they got down 45-29 with five to play. Joe Johnson kept the Nets in this one with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting and brought the Nets back to be down 55-43 at half. The third quarter was Mirza Teletovic’s quarter as he hit four 3-pointers to give the Nets a short lived 73-72 lead but the Magic took the lead right back and finished the third up 83-78. Brooklyn’s bench did their best and followed Johnson as he scored the eight straight points late in the fourth and Brooklyn ended up down three points with :13 seconds and the magic made their free throws to hold on for the win.
Joe Johnson ended up with 31 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds while Arron Afflalo scored 25 points, 5 assists and had 4 rebounds.
Momentum Changers:
Dewayne Dedmon broke a 97-97 tie with a driving dunk while drawing Plumlee’s sixth foul with 4:24 remaining. Although Dedmon missed the free throw, the Magic never again lost the lead.
NUMBERS:
Joe Johnson’s 31 points are the most points he’s scored in a road game this season.
Kevin Garnett dished out a season-high 6 assists.
With his 126th 3-pointer of the season, Mirza Teletovic is now in sole possession of 10th place in Nets single season history in threes made.
Deron Williams tied Allen Iverson for 42nd in NBA history in career assists (5,624 assists).
Joe Johnson has tied Vince Carter (2006-07 season) for 3rd in Nets’ single season history in 3-pointers made (156 3-pointers).
The Nets’ 35 points in the 3rd quarter matched the 2nd-most points the Nets have scored in a 3rd quarter this season.

“At the end, we executed offensively, but defensively, we didn’t,” Nets coach Jason Kidd said. “We pretty much had five guards out there, playing Joe at the center. We probably put him in a bad way, trying to make a 3 on a 7-footer (O’Quinn). As coaches we can get better. This was a learning experience.”
